Sudan RSF commander defects with 300 troops
A commander in Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has defected along with around 300 of his troops, according to regional reporting. The defection comes as the RSF battles the Sudanese army in a civil war that has displaced millions and fueled ethnic violence in Darfur. Such defections are being watched for signs of weakening cohesion within the paramilitary group.
Why now: Ongoing Sudan civil war makes any RSF defection militarily and politically significant.
