Senior RSF commander defects with 300 troops in Sudan
Original: Sudan RSF commander defects with 300 troops
A commander in Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has defected, taking around 300 troops with him, according to regional reporting. The move adds to signs of strain within the RSF as it battles the Sudanese army in a war that has displaced millions. Defections from the paramilitary have been closely watched as indicators of its cohesion and battlefield prospects.
Why now: The war in Sudan remains a major ongoing conflict, and high-level defections suggest weakening morale or shifting loyalties inside the RSF.
