The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that flooding has displaced around 241,000 people in South Sudan. The figure was published by OCHA on October 14, 2024, as heavy seasonal floods continue to overwhelm communities in the country. Humanitarian agencies are responding, but displacement on this scale raises concerns about shelter, food and disease among affected populations.
Why now: Severe seasonal flooding has forced a large number of people from their homes, drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan.
