NATO proceeds with Steadfast Noon nuclear drill despite Russian warning
Original: NATO presses ahead with ‘Steadfast Noon’ nuclear drill after Russia’s nuclear warning
NATO is moving forward with its annual Steadfast Noon exercise, which trains forces handling nuclear weapons, even after Russia issued a warning about nuclear matters. The decision underscores NATO's insistence that routine deterrence drills will continue regardless of Russian rhetoric, as tensions between the alliance and Moscow remain high over the war in Ukraine.
Why now: NATO's refusal to cancel a nuclear exercise after explicit Russian warnings has sharpened fears of escalating nuclear rhetoric.
