Ocean Beach Neighbors Fight Plan for 12 Backyard Units

Original: Ocean Beach Neighbors Resist Plan to Build 12 ADUs in Backyard of Single-Family Home on Del Mar Avenue

Residents of Ocean Beach in San Diego are pushing back against a proposal to build 12 accessory dwelling units in the backyard of a single-family home on Del Mar Avenue. Local outlet OB Rag reports the plan has drawn opposition from neighbors concerned about density, parking and neighborhood character. The dispute highlights ongoing tension in California between state housing-density laws and community resistance.

Why now: The proposal tests California's ADU bonus rules, which allow far denser development in single-family neighborhoods, fueling local backlash.
