Ocean Beach Neighbors Fight 12-Unit Backyard Housing Plan

Original: Ocean Beach Neighbors Resist Plan to Build 12 ADUs in Backyard of Single-Family Home on Del Mar Avenue

Residents of Ocean Beach in San Diego are pushing back against a proposal to build 12 accessory dwelling units in the backyard of a single-family home on Del Mar Avenue. Neighbors say the density is out of scale with the residential street, while the plan is enabled by California state laws that allow multiple ADUs on single-family lots.

Why now: State housing laws allowing multiple ADUs are colliding with neighborhood concerns about density, making this a local flashpoint.
