Trump Urges AI to Accelerate Science While Cutting Research Funding
Original: Trump Calls on AI to Speed Up Science—While Continuing to Defund It
President Trump is calling for artificial intelligence to be used to speed up scientific discovery, even as his administration continues to cut federal funding for research. Critics point out the contradiction: AI depends heavily on publicly funded science and data, and researchers warn that budget cuts could undermine the very work the president wants to accelerate.
Why now: The apparent contradiction between promoting AI-driven science and defunding research is drawing criticism and debate.
