Everyday people quietly holding up the internet, XKCD-style
Original: Meet the handful of everyday people keeping digital infrastructure alive just like the XKCD "Dependency" cartoon https:/
A new project profiles the small, largely unrecognized group of ordinary people who maintain critical digital infrastructure, drawing a direct comparison to XKCD's famous 'Dependency' cartoon, in which everything online rests on a single precarious pillar. The piece highlights how much of the modern internet depends on a handful of individuals keeping key systems running.
Why now: The XKCD 'Dependency' cartoon resonates widely, and fresh attention to fragile internet infrastructure keeps the comparison relevant.
