Original: Mark Greatbatch: NZ Cricket President on the decision to reject joining the Big Bash competition in favour of a franchise T20 league - The Mike Hosking Breakfast

New Zealand Cricket has turned down the chance to join Australia's Big Bash League, opting instead to back a franchise-based T20 competition of its own. NZ Cricket president Mark Greatbatch discussed the decision on Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking Breakfast, defending the move as the better long-term option for the sport in New Zealand.

Why now: NZ Cricket's choice to snub the Big Bash in favour of a domestic franchise league is a significant strategic call for the game's future.
