NZ Cricket rejects Big Bash in favour of own T20 league
Original: Mark Greatbatch: NZ Cricket President on the decision to reject joining the Big Bash competition in favour of a franchise T20 league - The Mike Hosking Breakfast
New Zealand Cricket, under president Mark Greatbatch, has turned down the chance to join Australia's Big Bash competition and will instead back a franchise-based domestic T20 league. The decision, discussed on Mike Hosking's breakfast programme, is being weighed up by fans and commentators who see it as a bet that homegrown franchises will grow the game locally, even if it means passing up closer trans-Tasman integration with Australian cricket.
Why now: NZ Cricket has just announced a significant strategic decision about the future of its domestic T20 structure.
