USDA bans federal funding for solar and wind on farmland

Original: "Trump's # USDA 🚨just banned fed funding for # solar & # wind on farmers' own cropland. Eff Oct 16th. R Rusk, a MI dairy

The USDA under President Trump has barred federal funding for solar and wind projects on farmers' cropland, effective October 16. Farmers affected include a Michigan dairy farmer whose $85,000 solar grant was never awarded, and Illinois-based Book Family Farms, which had already built two solar arrays. The move is drawing criticism over its impact on farm energy independence.

Why now: The policy directly affects farmers who invested in or planned renewable energy projects with federal support.
