Pentagon Posts Test Platforms' Violent Content Rules
Original: Platforms' Violent Content Rules Are About to Meet The Pentagon's Firing Squad
TechDirt reports that the Pentagon is producing content depicting firing squad executions, and social media platforms will face a dilemma over whether their policies banning violent content apply to material from the US government itself. The piece argues moderation rules will be tested when official military posts feature graphic violence, forcing platforms to either enforce policies against the state or carve out exemptions that undermine their stated standards.
Why now: The collision between government-produced violent content and platform moderation policies raises questions about enforcement consistency and free speech.
