Women gain ground in Brazil's Congress
Original: Women gain ground in Brazil’s Congress
Women won an increased share of seats in Brazil's Congress in the latest elections, according to Valor International. The gains mark continued, though still limited, progress for female representation in the country's legislature, which has historically had one of the lowest proportions of women among national parliaments. Observers are weighing what the shift means for policy debates in Brasília.
Why now: Election results showing women increasing their representation in Brazil's national legislature are drawing attention to the pace of political change.
