Trump administration rejects all candidates for next UN secretary-general
Original: Trump administration opposes all options for new UN chief — and wants new candidates
The Trump administration has signalled opposition to every candidate currently in the running to become the next UN secretary-general, and is pushing for a new pool of contenders, Politico reports. The stance complicates the selection process at the United Nations, where member states are weighing successors to António Guterres, and it remains unclear whom Washington would back instead.
Why now: The US stance is disrupting the UN's succession race, raising uncertainty over who can secure approval for the world body's top job.
