All-Japan school choir contest in the spotlight

Original: nコン

Japan's NHK School Music Competition, known as N-Con, is drawing attention after Aizu high school students won the national high school division with a free-choice piece themed on the earthquake disaster, weaving local memories of calamity into song, while rival Tachibana took a merit award. Separately, the contest announced that judge Yohei Noda, recently indicted over a speeding case, has been replaced, with Daisuke Yokoyama covering both school divisions.

Why now: A national choir win tied to earthquake memory and a judge's sudden replacement over criminal charges put the contest in the news at once.
