N-Con announces judge replacement amid conductor's indictment

The NHK All-Japan School Music Competition, known as N-Con, has replaced pianist Kyotaro Handan... Kyotaro Handa — actually conductor Kyotaro Handan was indicted for speeding — as a judge for this year's contest. Daisuke Yokoyama will now judge both the junior high and elementary school divisions. Handa, who stepped down from an advisory post in Nara, issued an apology saying he has no way to contribute to society other than through music. Meanwhile, schools including Kurosawajiri Kita Elementary in Iwate are competing, and a Fukushima high school choir won the national title with a piece themed on disaster memory.
