Israeli daily Maariv reports that American officials pressed Israel to launch a unilateral military strike on Iran during talks over the past two weeks. According to the report, Washington wanted Israel to take on the political risks of military action ahead of the midterm elections, and believed Israel might favor striking before its own October 27 deadline.
Why now: The report suggests the US sought to shift the risks of a war with Iran onto Israel, a striking claim about election timing and Middle East strategy.
