Major US television networks were notified Friday that the Department of Justice is examining whether they violated antitrust law by suspending pool coverage of Donald Trump. The news drew sharp reactions online, with many calling the investigation politically motivated and absurd, arguing the department is targeting broadcasters for their editorial decisions. Critics say the move raises fresh press freedom concerns as the Justice Department under Trump scrutinises media organisations.
Why now: People are reacting to the Justice Department opening an antitrust investigation into broadcasters' coverage decisions, which many see as an attack on press freedom.
