Poll shows 70% of Americans back South Korean nuclear armament
Original: "South Korea's nuclear armament?" We asked Americans… 70% gave an 'unexpected answer' [PICK] / Yo...
A new survey asking Americans about the possibility of South Korea acquiring nuclear weapons found that 70% gave what is being described as an unexpected answer, apparently voicing support for such a move. The finding is drawing attention in South Korea, where debate over independent nuclear armament has grown amid North Korea's expanding weapons programs and questions about the reliability of the US nuclear umbrella. Analysts say American public opinion could influence future policy discussions in both Washington and Seoul.
Why now: Rising tensions with North Korea and debate over South Korea going nuclear make American public opinion on the question newly relevant.
