South Korean broadcaster Yonhap News TV reports on a survey asking Americans whether South Korea should arm itself with nuclear weapons, saying 70% gave what it calls an 'unexpected answer'. The result is drawing attention in South Korea, where public debate over independent nuclear armament has grown amid North Korea's weapons programmes and questions about the reliability of the US security umbrella.
Why now: Debate over South Korea acquiring nuclear weapons is intensifying, and a US poll result appears to challenge expected American opposition.
