Starlink Faces Tough Math in India's Cheap Data Market
Original: India Has The World’s Cheapest Data. Starlink Wants In? > Then: ₹268/GB > Now: ₹8/GB Starlink hardware alone is reported
Elon Musk's Starlink is pushing to enter India, but it faces an unusual challenge: the country already has the world's cheapest mobile data. Prices have fallen from about ₹268 per gigabyte to roughly ₹8 per gigabyte over the years, while Starlink hardware alone is reported to cost over ₹30,000. Commentators are questioning how the satellite service can realistically reach Indian villages at those prices, with many skeptical it can compete on cost.
Why now: Starlink's India entry is being debated because its high hardware costs clash with India's extremely low data prices.
