EU Parliament urges adding Muslim Brotherhood to terror list
Original: EU Parliament adopts resolution calling for Muslim Brotherhood to be added to the EU terror list # terrorism https://www
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling on the EU to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation and add it to the bloc's terror list. The move is expected to spark debate among member states and rights groups, as such designation requires unanimous agreement and critics argue the group operates largely through legal political and social channels.
Why now: A major EU institution has just taken a controversial position on designating a prominent transnational Islamist movement, touching on security, politics and civil liberties.
