UK PM admits Russia meddled in Brexit vote
Original: Russia behind Britain's Brexit vote, UK prime minister admits for first time
The UK prime minister has for the first time acknowledged that Russia was behind efforts to influence Britain's 2016 Brexit referendum. Speaking as reported by the Kyiv Independent, ministers said the record should be set straight now so that voters in Germany and France understand that some political movements in Europe are instigated by Russia, viewed as an enemy seeking to destabilise Western democracies.
Why now: The admission is the first official acknowledgment of Russian involvement in Brexit and comes as European elections approach, raising fears of further interference.
