Texas community questions cooperation with ICE after driver shooting
Original: “If ICE is going to act with criminal impunity, why should we cooperate with them at all?” From Gaige Davila: Here's how
Journalist Gaige Davila reports on how a Texas community, local police and politicians responded after delivery driver Wilber Garces Perez was shot, prompting a public challenge to ICE: if the agency acts with criminal impunity, why should residents cooperate with it at all? The question is fueling debate over sanctuary practices and local law enforcement's ties to federal immigration authorities.
Why now: The shooting of an immigrant delivery driver and criticism of ICE's conduct have reignited arguments over cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
