YouTuber's police-tracking camera draws police visit to his home
Original: YouTuber builds 'Flock-like' camera to track police vehicles, gets police visit
A Canadian YouTuber built a Flock-style automated camera designed to track police vehicles rather than ordinary drivers. Officers later visited his home to raise privacy concerns about the project, prompting debate online about surveillance asymmetry: the same technology used to monitor the public being turned back on police. Critics of the visit argue it raises free-expression and watchdog-journalism questions.
Why now: The irony of police invoking privacy concerns against a citizen surveillance project has sparked debate about who is allowed to watch whom.
