Russia hits Ukrainian power plant hours after Trump's energy ceasefire call

Original: Russia strikes power plant in Ukraine after Trump announces energy ceasefire

Russian forces struck a power plant in Ukraine shortly after US President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed in principle to stop attacking each other's energy infrastructure. The strike raised immediate doubts about whether the partial ceasefire, brokered through talks between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, could hold, and Ukraine said it showed Russia was not acting in good faith.

Why now: The attack came almost immediately after the ceasefire announcement, undercutting its credibility and fuelling debate over whether peace efforts are viable.
