Open source gallery app promises to leave photos untouched
Original: This open source gallery app does what Google Photos won't: leave your pictures alone
An open source gallery app for Android is being highlighted as an alternative to Google Photos, on the grounds that it does not modify, compress, or otherwise interfere with users' pictures. The pitch targets people frustrated with cloud-driven features and automated changes in mainstream photo apps, positioning simple, local-first photo storage as the main selling point.
Why now: Ongoing user concern about Big Tech photo apps altering or uploading personal pictures has renewed interest in privacy-focused open source alternatives.
