Google ordered to pause Finland datacentre work over environmental concerns
Original: Google told to halt work on datacentres in Finland over environmental concerns
Google has been told to temporarily halt construction work on its datacentre sites in Finland pending a proper assessment of the environmental impact. The order, reported by the Guardian, reflects growing scrutiny of the water, land and energy demands of large datacentre projects in the Nordic region, where tech companies have invested heavily.
Why now: The halt highlights mounting environmental pushback against the rapid expansion of AI-driven datacentre infrastructure.
