Trump Floats Renaming Atlantic or Pacific as 'Ocean of the Americas'
Original: ‘Ocean of the Americas’: Trump Floats Renaming Atlantic or Pacific
President Donald Trump has suggested renaming either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean the 'Ocean of the Americas,' according to Time Magazine. The proposal echoes his earlier push to rename geographic features, such as referring to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. The idea drew widespread reactions, with critics calling it another symbolic rebranding and supporters framing it as hemispheric branding. No formal action has been announced.
Why now: Trump's suggestion continues his pattern of proposing high-profile geographic name changes, which reliably sparks debate.
