Trump floats renaming Atlantic or Pacific the 'Ocean of the Americas'
Original: ‘Ocean of the Americas’: Trump Floats Renaming Atlantic or Pacific
Donald Trump has floated renaming either the Atlantic or the Pacific Ocean as the 'Ocean of the Americas', according to Time Magazine. The proposal, if pursued, would mark the latest in a series of geographic renaming suggestions by the US president and is likely to draw international criticism and diplomatic pushback from countries bordering both oceans.
Why now: A sitting US president suggesting a sweeping geographic renaming is novel and controversial, drawing wide attention.
