Wired reports that a simulation of a solar geoengineering scenario — deliberately dimming the sun to cool the planet — deteriorated faster and more dangerously than participants expected, exposing how quickly such a intervention could trigger geopolitical conflict and mistrust among nations. The exercise highlights that even the technical feasibility of sunlight-reflecting schemes matters less than the diplomacy, governance and unilateral action risks surrounding them, renewing debate over who should ever control the planet's thermostat.
Why now: A fresh high-profile report on a solar geoengineering war game is sparking renewed debate about climate intervention risks.
