US Seeks Sudan Ceasefire While Avoiding UAE's Role
Original: The U.S. Wants a Ceasefire in Sudan but Won’t Confront the UAE’s Role in the War
The United States is pressing for a ceasefire in Sudan's civil war but has declined to challenge the United Arab Emirates' alleged support for one of the warring parties, according to commentary from Democracy for the Arab World Now. Critics argue Washington's reluctance to confront Abu Dhabi undermines prospects for ending the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has caused one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
Why now: Frustration is growing that US diplomacy on Sudan spares a key Gulf partner accused of fueling the war.
