US Pushes Sudan Ceasefire While Avoiding UAE's War Role
Original: The U.S. Wants a Ceasefire in Sudan but Won’t Confront the UAE’s Role in the War
The United States is pressing for a ceasefire in Sudan's civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, but analysts at Democracy for the Arab World Now argue Washington is deliberately avoiding the UAE's role in arming and backing the RSF. Critics say this selective diplomacy undermines peace efforts, as continued Emirati support sustains the fighting and weakens the credibility of American mediation in the conflict.
Why now: Ongoing US-led ceasefire diplomacy for Sudan is drawing criticism that Washington is shielding a key Gulf ally implicated in the war.
