Omar probe reportedly targets her citizenship
Original: Omar probe targets her citizenship
Representative Ilhan Omar is facing a new investigation that critics say focuses on her citizenship status. The probe has reignited debate over attacks on the Minnesota congresswoman, who came to the United States as a refugee from Somalia and became a citizen in 2000. Supporters call the effort a politically motivated attempt to delegitimize her, while backers of the inquiry have raised long-disputed questions about her naturalization.
Why now: Renewed scrutiny of a prominent congresswoman's citizenship is drawing strong reactions across the political spectrum.
