Omar citizenship targeted in new probe
Original: Omar probe targets her citizenship
Representative Ilomar Omar is facing an investigation focused on her citizenship status, renewing long-running scrutiny of the Minnesota congresswoman and her background. Critics have repeatedly questioned her naturalization, claims she and her allies reject as baseless and politically motivated. Supporters say the probe amounts to harassment of a prominent Muslim-American lawmaker, while backers of the effort argue it raises legitimate questions.
Why now: A new investigation touching a sitting congresswoman's citizenship is a fresh and contentious development in an ongoing political feud.
