Estonia opens source code of its online voting system
Original: Source code of the Estonian online voting system
Estonia has published the full source code of its internet voting system, IVXV, on GitHub. The country has run nationwide online voting in elections for years, and making the code public allows independent experts to inspect how votes are cast, encrypted and counted. Discussion is focused on whether openness of the code is enough to guarantee security, or whether the system's architecture still leaves risks that transparency alone cannot resolve.
Why now: Publishing voting system source code is rare and sparks debate about election security and transparency.
