Vatican upholds excommunication of US deacon over priest abuse case
Original: Vatican upholds excommunication of US deacon who resigned after son was molested by priest https://www. theguardian.com/
The Vatican has upheld the excommunication of a US deacon from Louisiana who resigned after his son was molested by a priest. The decision, reported by the Guardian, followed an appeal by the deacon. The case has drawn attention to how the Catholic Church treats whistleblowers and victims' families in clergy sexual abuse scandals.
Why now: The Vatican's decision to punish a abuse victim's father rather than the offending priest reignites anger over the Church's handling of clergy sexual abuse.
