Vatican upholds excommunication of deacon who resigned over son's abuse
Original: Vatican upholds excommunication of US deacon who resigned after son was molested by priest https://www. theguardian.com/
The Vatican has upheld the excommunication of a US deacon from Louisiana who resigned from his ministry after his son was molested by a priest. The decision follows an appeal against his removal, and the case has drawn attention to how the Catholic Church handles clergy sexual abuse and those who challenge it.
Why now: The church's decision to punish a abuse victim's father rather than the offending priest has sparked outrage and renewed debate over the clergy abuse scandal.
