Donetsk Back in Focus Amid Continued Fighting
Original: Donetsk
Donetsk, the largest city in Ukraine's occupied east, is drawing renewed attention as the war there grinds on. Russian forces have been pressing offensives across the Donetsk region, while Ukrainian officials report continued shelling of frontline towns. The city, annexed by Moscow in 2022 but not under Kyiv's control, remains a central symbol of the conflict and a key objective in Russia's declared war aims.
Why now: Ongoing fighting around Donetsk keeps the city in headlines as the Ukraine war continues.
