Donetsk back in focus amid ongoing fighting in eastern Ukraine
Original: Donetsk
Donetsk, the eastern Ukrainian city occupied by Russia since 2014, is drawing attention again as fighting continues along the front lines of the Donetsk region. Russian and Ukrainian forces remain locked in combat across the surrounding oblast, and discussion centres on the city's symbolic and strategic role in the war and its likely place in any future settlement talks.
Why now: Continuing military activity and negotiations over the fate of occupied eastern Ukraine keep Donetsk in the news.
