How much wildlife do cats really kill?
Original: How much wildlife do cats actually kill – should we really keep our pet cats indoors?
Debate is growing over the impact of domestic cats on wildlife, with renewed attention to estimates of birds, small mammals and other prey killed by pet cats each year. Conservationists point to significant tolls on vulnerable species, while pet owners question whether keeping cats indoors is fair to the animals. The discussion touches on ways to reduce harm, such as bell collars and supervised outdoor time.
Why now: Renewed coverage of cat predation research has reignited the argument over indoor versus outdoor pet cats.
