How Much Wildlife Do Cats Actually Kill?
Original: How much wildlife do cats actually kill – should we really keep our pet cats indoors?
A renewed debate is under way over the impact of domestic cats on wildlife and whether owners should keep their pets indoors. Cats are known to kill large numbers of birds, small mammals and other animals each year, and the question is how much of that toll is significant and what measures owners should take. Discussions weigh the benefits of letting cats roam freely against their effect on already-pressured wild populations.
Why now: Pet owners and conservationists are debating cat predation on wildlife and whether keeping cats indoors is justified.
