Bessent says Democratic Congress could not block Trump agenda

Original: Ahead of elections, Bessent says a Democrat-led Congress could do little to stop Trump agenda

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said ahead of upcoming US elections that even if Democrats win control of Congress, they would have limited ability to stop President Trump's agenda. The comments, carried by Reuters and other outlets, frame the midterm contests as unlikely to derail the administration's policy plans, drawing attention to how much of Trump's program could proceed through executive action regardless of legislative control.

Why now: Ahead of the US midterm elections, a senior administration official is downplaying the stakes of a possible Democratic victory.
