Black Pilot Says Squadron Tossed Her Wings in Coffee, Then Storm Forced Her to Fly Commander Home
Original: “Quota!” Squadron Dropped Black Pilot’s Wings in Coffee — Storm Made Her Fly Their Commander Home
A Black pilot's account is drawing wide attention: she says her squadron, mocking her as a 'quota' hire, dropped her pilot's wings into coffee, and that the same unit later had to rely on her to fly their commander home through a storm. The story is being shared as a pointed example of workplace racism undercut by her own skill.
Why now: The dramatic reversal of the squadron dismissing her as a diversity hire then depending on her in a storm resonates with ongoing debates about racism and 'quota' accusations in the military.
