Premier League panel backs Struijk red card despite FA overturning ban
Original: Prem panel backs Struijk red card even though FA overturned suspension
A Premier League independent panel has backed the decision to send off Leeds defender Pascal Struijk for his challenge on Liverpool's Harvey Elliott, even though the FA overturned the three-match suspension that followed. The ruling means the dismissal stands on the record, but Struijk avoided a ban after the FA ruled the red card was wrongly issued on review.
Why now: The apparently contradictory rulings on the same tackle have reignited debate over inconsistency in football's disciplinary process.
