Congressional candidate Lander detained by IDF in West Bank
Original: Congressional candidate Lander detained by IDF while picking olives in West Bank
Brad Lander, a candidate for Congress, was detained by the Israeli military while taking part in an olive harvest in the occupied West Bank. The account circulated widely, drawing attention to the treatment of international observers and activists during the annual olive-picking season, a period that has repeatedly seen clashes between Palestinian farmers, settlers and Israeli forces.
Why now: People are discussing it because an American political figure being detained by a foreign military is unusual and politically charged, especially amid heightened attention to the West Bank.
