Thousands of California state workers strike in contract dispute with Newsom
Original: Thousands of California state workers walk off the job in contract dispute with Newsom
Thousands of California state employees walked off the job in a strike tied to ongoing contract negotiations with Governor Gavin Newsom's administration. The walkout disrupts state services and marks an escalation in the labor dispute over pay and working conditions. It is one of the larger state-worker job actions in California in recent years, and pressure is building on both sides to return to bargaining.
Why now: A large-scale public-sector strike directly challenging Governor Newsom draws attention for its impact on state services and labor-political tensions.
