Original: Haiti Gangs Ambush UN-backed Security Force, Four Salvadoran Troops Missing | VERTEX
Gunmen in Haiti have ambushed the UN-backed multinational security mission, leaving four Salvadoran troops missing. The incident marks one of the most serious setbacks for the Kenya-led force, which is deployed to help Haiti's government fight powerful criminal gangs that control much of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Search efforts and international reaction are underway.
Why now: The ambush is a major escalation against the international mission and raises questions about its safety and effectiveness.
