Bird flu outbreak rages uncontrolled on Utah mink farm

Original: "...That perfect petri dish exists right now, a ProPublica investigation found. For over two months, an outbreak of bird

A ProPublica investigation reports that an avian influenza outbreak has raged for more than two months on a Utah farm raising thousands of mink for fur. ProPublica describes the farm as a 'perfect petri dish' because mink respiratory systems closely resemble humans' at the cellular level, raising fears the virus could adapt to spread among people. Commenters are sharing the findings amid broader worry about bird flu's growing spread in mammals.

Why now: Fresh reporting on a prolonged bird flu outbreak in mink, a mammal highly susceptible to influenza, has reignited pandemic-risk concerns.
