Bird flu outbreak rages uncontrolled on Utah mink farm

Original: "...That perfect petri dish exists right now, a ProPublica investigation found. For over two months, an outbreak of bird

A ProPublica investigation reports that an outbreak of bird flu has raged uncontrolled for more than two months on a Utah farm raising thousands of mink for fur. Investigators describe the farm as a 'perfect petri dish', noting that mink lungs and airways are remarkably similar to humans' at the cellular level, raising fears the virus could adapt and spread to people.

Why now: Concern that an uncontrolled bird flu outbreak in mink, whose biology resembles humans', could enable the virus to adapt to people.
